Sasho's illnessMedical history 1986 - As a result of an incident at the school canteen Sasho loses two fingers ( the middle finger and the ring finger ). This incident damages his education opportunities and ultimately his entire life . 1987 - At the medical examination upon conscription in the army doctors detect a kidney disorder. He is urgently sent to the Military Hospital in Sofia for a full examination . A renal biopsy on his left kidney is performed and he is diagnosed with Glomerulonephritis . Sasho is declared unfit for military service . 1988 - Sasho is employed at a shoe - making factory in Krumovgrad , but the loss of his fingers makes it difficult for him to work . As a result he is dismissed from his job and has to earn a living as a farmer , which worsens his condition . Until 2001 Sasho suffers a number of renal failure crises . A medical examination in 2001 establishes that Sasho suffers from hypertension (180/150). A treatment with Clofadine and Enap is prescribed. September - December 2002 - Sasho is admitted to the Aleksandrovska Hospital in Sofia for a full medical examination, diagnosis and treatment. The medical history report shows that Sasho suffers from hypertension second degree, chronic glomerulonephritis, (IGA focal and glomerulal lesions), first-degree chronic renal failure, and secondary anaemia. He is treated by Dr . Bogov , Dr . Nikolova and Dr . Tzekova . May 2003 - National Health Insurance Scheme protocol on the free provision of the expensive drug Eprex. August 2003 - Twice a week Sasho is given Eprex intravenous injections at the Aleksandrovska Hospital ( this treatment is scheduled to continue until January 2004). November 2003 ã . – Sasho is included on the kidney transplantation waiting list at the Transplantation Centre ( Second Nephrology Clinic at the Aleksandrovska Hospital) . Medical history report - click December 23 rd 2003 ã. - He is urgently fitted with a catheter because of the rising creatinine level - 860. Late December 2003 - He is fitted with a fistula at the Hospital in Plovdiv. Haemodialysis through a catheter continues for 40 days . January 2004 ã. - Haemodialysis is carried out in Kardjali 3 times a week for 4 hours a day. For most of the week Sasho travels from Devisilovo to Kardjali (80 Km. to Kardjali, i.e. 480 Km. a week) .
